The Office of Fellowships Funds Experiences Outside the Classroom
St. Edward's University supports students in their quest to earn prestigious scholarships and fellowships by providing research and conference funding options.
Funds and Scholarships
This fund offers support to students of all majors to travel to professional meetings and conferences. Funds may support registration, travel, hotel, and food costs. The typical award ranges between $100 and $700, depending on location and length of the conference. Students actively involved in the conference proceedings are given preference (e.g., students making oral presentations, designing posters, participating on a panel, or performing/exhibiting a new composition).
Upon their return, those who receive funding from the Student Conference Fund should submit an application to present at the Symposium on Undergraduate Research and Creative Expression (SOURCE), or submit a piece for publication to a regional, national, or campus journal (Arete, the Sorin Oak Review, jSource). Please email follow up reports regarding your conference experience as emails to Dina Guidubaldi (dguiduba@tanxiqiao.net).
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis throughout the year. Please submit applications via email to Gabby Caraballo, Administrative Coordinator (gcarabal@tanxiqiao.net). Requests should be submitted at least four weeks prior to the planned trip. Applications are processed within ten business days.
You can fill out the application form.
The Dr. George E. Martin Presidential Scholarship Endowment was established in 2017 through the commitment and generosity of nearly 50 university trustees, alumni, friends and benefactors. This endowment honors Dr. Martin's tenure and his vision for how the St. Edward's mission may inspire today's students to discover who they are, who they can be, and who they should be throughout their Hilltop journeys and beyond. A Martin Scholarship provides students with funding for credential-building experiences, along with individualized guidance and writing sessions that help students clarify their future goals.
All students (except graduating seniors) with a GPA of 3.2 or above may apply. Applicants need not know exactly what their research projects/internships/etc. are at the time of application, though concrete ideas and budgets are encouraged, and financial need will be taken into consideration. Martin Scholars should be prepared to work on applications for external fellowships/scholarships (e.g., Fulbright, Gilman, the Critical Language Scholarship) after completing their funded projects.

This award is sponsored by the Office of Fellowships and is only for graduate students. Funds disbursed must be used during the upcoming summer. There may be a virtual information session or two, where we'll discuss progress, award details, and the nature of your research.
To apply, contact our office in the Spring, apply via this form, and tell us how your research project will help create a more just world. (For help defining and utilizing the rather nebulous term "a more just world," please see these very specific and detailed goals as put forth by the UN.
